Have you ever wondered where a man can find God and fellowship with Him today?
Adam met with God and fellowshipped with Him in the Garden of Eden.
Moses met with God and fellowshipped with Him at the tabernacle.
David met with God and fellowshipped with Him at the temple.
What about us in this day and age? Where can we find God and fellowship with Him?
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1
In current times, there is still a secret place where the most High God resides and men should abide.
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” John 15:4
In the Old Testament, men would meet God in a physical location e.g. a mountain, tent of meeting, tabernacle or temple. As Christians today, we abide not in a location but in a person called Jesus. I abide in God by walking and talking with Jesus every day.
Jesus is neither a long distance relative nor a stranger. I know He exists and will meet Him face-to-face when I die and go to heaven.
Jesus is a person I meet every day. I walk with Him and He talks to me. There is joy in our intimacy.
The Secret Place is like our Garden of Eden. It is where we meet and fellowship with Jesus each day.
Because the Secret Place is in our heart and consciousness, we can carry Christ everywhere and fellowship with Him anywhere.
Jesus described us as His bride. The Bible describes Him as the bridegroom. What a beautiful picture of intimacy. It was for intimacy that Jesus came to die on the cross. That intimacy is not for a select few great Christians, but for all that would call upon the name of Jesus.
In a Chinese wedding, the bride has to wait at home whilst the bridegroom arrives with big fanfare to pick her up. It would be strange for the bride to run around on this day trying to find her bridegroom. She only has to sit still, wait in her room and the bridegroom will come.
Waiting is a key to abiding in Christ.
Many times, when we want to draw near to Christ, we think we must do more, serve more. But we actually have to do less and wait more. He already wants to fellowship with us. No amount of service will make Him love us more or want to fellowship with us more. His love and desire to fellowship with us is already at the highest intensity.
We just have to desire His fellowship, sit still and let Him come to us.
